The best house for sale in the world

Mandalay House, on Airlie Beach, has been voted the finest home for sale in the world for 2015 by readers of the international property hub, Mansion Global.

Mandalay House was chosen above 60 properties from around the world, including a villa on the French Riviera, and a tropical retreat in Hawaii.

Located in the heart of the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef, Mandalay House is blessed with great beauty and a superb location.

Developer and owner, Neil Murray, says the house was "lovingly designed, and built to be loved."

"The Mansion Global award means a lot to me," said Murray. "I am thrilled that all the work and resources that the team and I put into creating Mandalay House has been recognised internationally. The win is also a great result for Australia."

Mandalay House was designed by Andrew Simpson of Total Project Group. The project had an open-chequebook policy, and took four years to complete. No detail was overlooked. Master craftsmen and artisans used the finest materials, including rosewood and marble. Unobstructed views are available from every angle.

The interiors are Baroque style, and furnishings are antique. The 2,649sqm residence has seven king-sized bedrooms, nine bathrooms, formal living and dining rooms, and a kitchen with casual dining, butler's pantry, and walk-in cool-room. An oceanfront pavilion has dining for 14. The home contains an office with secretarial space, cellar with dining for 12, cinema, gym, pool room, and caretaker's cottage. The property has a five-car garage, a private 22.5m marina berth surrounded by rock wall, two jet-ski docks, and a boat shed.

The horizon swimming pool seems part of the house, and is a visual continuation of the sparkling Coral Sea.

Co-agent Carol Carter from Queensland Sotheby's International Realty, says Mandalay is her dream listing. "I personally have never seen a home as beautiful as Mandalay," she said. It seems everyone agrees with her.
