A BEAUTIFUL historic country estate lying hidden away on the Tablelands is up for sale.

Stoney Batter, formerly part of a cattle station of the same name, is a stunning old property located at the junction of beautiful Wet Tropics rainforest and open savanna grazing land.

Situated above Australia’s widest waterfall, while also boasting fertile soil and just a short drive away from Ravenshoe, it’s an ideal property for someone with money to spend on a private retreat or hobby farm.

Sotheby’s Senior Sales Executive Caroline Yarr said the first time she visited Stoney Batter, it took her breath away.

“The house itself is originally an old church and when you sit out on the lawn, you’re looking out over a national park and can hear the waterfall,” she said.

“It’s the sort of thing you can’t find anywhere else- it’s got a beautiful entry, grazing land for horses or a hobby farm, and an extensive shed and hayshed.

“The people who owned it have travelled the world for work and settled down in this place for a long time- it was definitely a reluctant sale.”

The former church has been converted into a spacious 120m² sitting and dining room and kitchen, extended by a 40 m² drawing room, three ensuite double bedrooms and a study.

In addition to the main house and two sheds, there is a fully self-contained and private cottage with deck, and a 3,300 sqm Dam, which, like the house, is served from a bore separately connected to the electricity grid.

The area is home to a cornucopia of wildlife, including rock wallabies, grey kangaroos, platypus and over 160 species of bird.
