Stirling House, Maryborough historic residence restored to brilliance
In the early 1900s, as young Australia became a Federation, Stirling House was in its 30th year as an example of a finely constructed Queenslander with a twist of American Gothic vernacular. Maryborough, a prosperous Fraser Coast community, settled along the shores of the Mary River, was years later to become celebrated as a heritage township with its handsome buildings and historic residences, each restored meticulously, and the town compared to a movie set. Today, Maryborough is abuzz with community spirit, a vibrant arts and cultural centre, excellent schools, and amenities of a metropolitan city without traffic jams and noise.
Situated a few houses down from the Mary River, Stirling takes its place in the company of the town's blue-chip private residences, each built on significantly sized blocks. The past ten years have seen Stirling restored to its brilliance with decorative cornices, ornate architraves, and stately rooms where the ceilings soar over four metres, illuminated by sparkling chandeliers. Yet Stirling has been reimagined as a modern home where the family kitchen is the heart of the home warmed by the dining room fireplace. There is a place for everything and everyone with a self-contained studio apartment for multiple purposes, from teens to grandparents or guest accommodation.
The outdoor living areas are equally beautiful with graciously sized verandas and alfresco spaces, as are the classical interiors of the home. With the charm of an English countryside garden, the Stirling House grounds are awash year-round with a kaleidoscope of colours. From the jacaranda and camellias in spring to the summertime hedges of gardenias, crepe myrtles and agapanthus. Autumn's seasonal palette of persimmon and reds is stunning, and wintertime brings a bounty of geraniums and roses with a peek of lavender. There are lawns for outdoor activities and playing, and the swimming pool catches the morning and afternoon sunlight.
The time has come to pass the Stirling House to the new owner custodian who will cherish her as part of their family. One call to Barbara or Lynn takes you one step closer to calling Stirling House your home.
